Battlestar mid-season finally?

Boy, could I have been more wrong in my prediction on how the series was going to end?  The found Earth alright.  It appears to be a nuclear wastland.  Was that it for the first half of season 4?  Talk about a cliff hanger.  I was on the edge of my seat for the last 20 minutes of the show.  I can’t beleive they are going to make us wait until 2009!  I was half expecting to see some terminators walking around.  I’m totally at a loss for any ideas as to what’s going to happen next.  Just when you think they’ve copped out and are going to drag the whole earth thing on for another half season they hit you with this.  The writing on this show just keeps getting better and better.

How will Battlestar End?

A recent posting to the Battlestar Blog has got me thinking.

I won’t go too deeply into what was discussed in that posting; you’ll have to read it yourself for that. Basically what it speculates is that due to the fact that constellation of Orion is in the back ground of one shot that they cylons are within 20 light years of earth in a fairly narrow corridor. I’m not going to dispute any of his physics as my astronomy training is basically a first year university course I took 15 years ago and it makes sense to me.

Now, let’s get on to my theories.

Four of the final 5 cylons heard All Along the Watch Tower either playing in their head as a cue to their identity or were picking it up as a transmission from earth. Let’s first assume they were picking it up as transmission. I don’t think this is a likely possibility for a few reasons. Firstly, that version was never broadcast until last year during the season finally. That would put them 20 years into our future assuming the people of earth in the show are watching the show. Ok, that’s hokey but what ever it’s fun. Secondly, why are the cylons only picking up that song? There are a whole lot of other transmissions floating around out there. Why don’t they hear any of them? I think it’s something that’s encoded into the “DNA” of the final five. I’ve got more on that shortly.

The cylons look as if they are getting into a bit of a bit of a civil war. What I think this is going to do is wipe out a large chunk of the “original” 7 that it gives the colonists enough of a shot to take on the rest of them and wipe most if not all of them out, assuming the cylons don’t do it themselves. I think it’s going to be a huge battle just before they find earth and all that will be left is one or more of the final five and a small contingent of humans. The battle will have left the fleet so decimated that once on earth they will simply slip into the existing population unnoticed, united with the 13th tribe.

Before we go any further, I don’t profess to be any sort of expert in history or religion. Much of my knowledge of either comes from Wikipedia. Therefore the following might be way out in left field.

The next question that arises is what part of history, or future, will they be arriving at? Personally I think it will be the in our past. It will be the founding or reinforcing of the Abrahamic Religions by what ever is left of the final five. A lot of reasons point to that. Firstly, I would assume that once the 13th tribe had settled on Earth they would have kept their polytheistic view of religion. The arrival of the final five would start if not support the conversion to a monotheistic view, i.e. Judaism. This also begs the idea that Baltar is Abraham and the covenant with God is simply one of his “episodes” with his virtual 6.

Much later in history, a song write named Bob Dylan, who happens to be descendant of the Final Five writes a song called All Along the Watch Tower.

Sophie

It’s been a week, but I’d like to introduce everyone to the newest member of our family. Sophie. She’s a West Highland White Terrier. She was born on Oct 1 2007. We picked her up on Sat Dec 8th from the breeder out in Oak River Manitoba.

It’s been quite the whirl wind week since we picked her up. You think you’ve “puppy safed” the house, but she certainly has other ideas about that. She sleeps well at night which is good. She’s made it through the last two night with out whimpering to go outside.

She’s had her first bark too! I think she suprised herself as much as she surprised us. She was looking around with this confused “Where did that come from” look on her face.

Now, if we can just get this peeing and pooing outside thing down pat we’ll be golden.

If you’d like to see more pics of her you can get to them here.

Coming into work sick

Killer Cold Virus Hits US

Nothing annoys me more then people who are so sick they can barely stand up, but still insist on dragging themselves into work.  This is how pandemics start.

City of Winnipeg to seize dozens of derelict buildings

City of Winnipeg to seize dozens of derelict buildings

A lawyer who specializes in municipal issues, called the move “draconian.”

All I can say is that it’s about f$^king time.  It’s an unusual move for such a non-progressive city as Winnipeg. I really hope the owners don’t mire them down in court for years trying to get it appealed, even though they’ve been given many chances already to fix the properties.I love this quote:

“If you start taking away something that’s so fundamental in somebody’s life, you better have a really good policy reason for doing that, as opposed to choosing other methods to dealing with the problem.”

Give me a break.  The fact that these houses are boarded up and derelict makes it obvious that they are not fundamental in any one’s life.   This is the kind of guy that probably lives is Wosley and repsonsible for the lack of mosquito fogging that area. Now, if we could just get MPI to stop insuring the old gas guzzling, oil burning rust buckets on the streets we be a bit closer to being a nice place to live.g

WestJet flight’s sharp drop injures 9

“Passengers say the pilot warned about the turbulence on the intercom, but many didn’t have time to secure their seatbelts when, seconds later, the plane dropped straight down.”

I believe this is why they warn you on every flight you have your seat belt fastened at all times while in your seat.  Even if the “fasten seat belt” sign is not lit.

Feed Addresses Changing

Filed under: administration, blog — anothergene @ 1:25 pm

Change is inevitable.  Don’t fear it, embrace it.  I’m piping all my feeds through Feed Burner now.  That includes the main feed for this blog and the comment feed as well.

The new feeds are

GeneMoreau.com/blog - http://feeds.feedburner.com/genemoreaudotcom

Comments - http://feeds.feedburner.com/commentsforgenemoreaudotcom

The old feeds will automatically redirect you through to the feedburner ones, so if you don’t understand any of this you don’t really have to do anything at all.  Great isn’t it?  you could always go find a 15 year old and have them do it too.

Of course, if you are a geek you will want to change these kind of things.  One reason to is to cut some of the lag provided free by my hosting company.  I won’t mention any names.  I guess that’s what you get when you cheap out and pay $10/month.

Week 7 CFL Picks

Filed under: cfl, football, pro-line, sports — anothergene @ 12:37 pm

Wow, what a week six. I don’t even know where to begin with that so I’m not going to. What a week for the under dogs.

On to week 7 picks. I hope things are back to normal, but who knows. I haven’t seen the pro-line odds yet so I’m gonna pick before hand. I may or may not change my decisions once the odds are published.

Calgary @ Montreal: Two 3-3 teams. Calgary has scored more, but has also let more in. I think I’m gonna call this one a tie.

Saskatchewan @ Toronto: The Riders. Toronto is in a bit of a tough QB situation. I don’t think they have it in them.

Winnipeg @ BC: Winnipeg. Looks like Dickenson won’t be back any time soon. I think the Bombers are looking to redeem themselves after that humiliation in Hamilton. They have the talent. Assuming of course they pull their collective heads out of their asses first.

Hamilton @ Edmonton: Edmonton. Hands down. I think the Eskimos are going to shut them down big time.

UPDATE: Ok the Pro-line odds are out and a I stand by my picks. $5 will get you $191.

Week 6 CFL Picks

Filed under: cfl, football, pro-line, sports — anothergene @ 6:11 pm

Ok. I found a lottery outlet while I was on my way go golfing so I do have some picks this week.

Toronto @ Montreal - This one was tough. The odds favour Montreal, but I think it could go either way. Since I thought the rest of them are a easy pics, I bought two tickets. One with Montreal winning, the other with Toronto.

Saskatchewan @ BC - Pretty cut and dried. BC will take this one. I don’t think BC is going to lose many games this year.

Winnipeg @ Hamilton - Not much to say here either. Winnipeg. When was the last time a team went the entire season with out winning a game?

Calgary @ Edmonton - Again, pretty cut and dried. Edmonton.

A $5 bet on Pro-Line will get you $96 if Toronto wins. $55 if Montreal wins.

Have a good weekend and keep it real.

Tiger-Cats’ Scott Mitchell Needs to Suck it Up

Filed under: cfl, football, sports — anothergene @ 9:32 am

Hey Scott Mitchel, I’ve got some advice for you. Suck it up and quit whining. The only thing people hate more then a bad sport is a whiny loser who tries to point the finger at every one but himself for his predicament. How you got to be president of the Hamilton Tiger-Cats with that kind of attitude I’ll never know.

I realize you are currently sitting at 0-5 and by all means looking like you will be 0-7 in a couple of weeks thanks to up coming games against Winnipeg and Edmonton. I’ve played various sports through out my life and most recently Ultimate Frisbee for 10 years now. I’ve played on enough bad teams in my life and been in the same situation and there is no one to blame but yourself.

You complained that the last play field goal attempt by Westwood was “disgusting”. Again I say, suck it up and quit whining. Of the bad teams I’ve played on we’ve had many an ass kicking administered to us. What I hated the most of it was when the other team realizes they’re going to win something like 15 to 2 and they start bringing their level of play down to “give us a chance”. I’ve always felt that is an insult. If you’ve got the ability to score on us that much I’ve always said do it. Run it up as much as you can, but be a good sport about it. I’m not going to whine and say the should not have tried to get that last point. That’s not sporting.
